Nautical Notions

moodboard monday nautical springtime

Today's moodboard isn't necessarily a color in particular. While you could say this looks like a lot of navy blue in one place, it's more directed towards the theme. To me, moodboards can be a theme, a color, or even a grouping of colors. Whatever is inspiring you. And since spring is finally here and we can shout from the rooftops that the cold weather is {hopefully} past us until next winter... Nothing says warmer weather like a little nautical themed moodboard.

What makes you think of summertime?

The Perfect Cover Up

I know I talk about everything and anything blue a lot. Let's be real, I just love navy. I also love the classic blue and white combo. Ginger jars anyone?? This past weekend I went to Aiken, South Carolina to visit a friend from college and I just died over her nail polish color. It was the most perfect slate blue color you could ever imagine, and perfect for fall! It's called 'The Perfect Cover Up' by Essie and you can bet I'll be going to scoop it up ASAP. {you can get it at Nordstrom!}

What's your favorite fall nail color?

Moodboard Monday: Blue & White

I have a confession. I don't know where it came from but it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have a new obsession with blue and white paired together.  Sadly, theres a 99% chance I'm overreacting on this because I've been obsessed with ginger jars for I don't know how long. If you're unclear on my ginger jar obsession, you can check it out here, and here. But one thing that really made me take a double take was when I saw on instagram last week that Tory Burch had come out with a home line and let me tell you - they hit it out of the park with their blue and white decor!

Moodboard Monday

It's Monday and you know what that means! It's time for a moodboard - This past weekend I went to Maryland to visit some college friends and attend one of our best friends Baby Shower!! It was so much fun and great to see and spend time with everyone {especially the momma to be!} Remember this amazing bathroom transformation? That's her! They will be welcoming a beautiful baby boy into the world in just a few short months! It was so exciting to be a part of such a wonderful shower.

As for the navy and orange - these are the colors of their nursery!! Navy is such a popular and widely used color right now but the orange added the perfect pop of bright color to the space! I felt as if it was a perfect fit for today's moodboard! I hope you enjoy this little preview of inspiration!

Here's a little group shot from the shower! Happy Monday!!

Navy & Neutrals

Hello Hello! Let's take a step back from all the overwhelming, up and coming trends I've been throwing at you lately and talk about something simple. Something that everyone goes through at some point, usually more than once in their lives. The taunting decision to pick out paint. Let's face it. It's hard to stand there in the paint section of your local hardware store and be expected to just pick out a color and commit to it. [So. Many. Decisions.] I know.

If there's anything my dad has taught me about paint, there's two words I'll never forget. Benjamin Moore.  Sure, all the other brands are great and work like their supposed to but Benjamin Moore paint in my parents house is like liquid gold.

On that note, I'm helping a friend decorate and get ready for her nursery and we're in the process of picking out paint. Today's topic is right up their alley in helping them make the big decision. [The baby's name is already chosen, so of course the next big decision is the paint color of the nursery right?] It's a boy so who wouldn't love a little Navy and Neutral for a baby boy?

Here are my top choices for this Navy & Neutral Bedroom:
Personally, I'm imagining an all grey nursery with a thick horizontal cabana stripe that sits just above the top of the crib and flows through the room.. Soft and bold all in one! Note: We will be bringing in some other bright colors like mint greens, yellows and orange tones to this nursery with the decorations and other items as well! This baby is already the most stylish kid in Ohio!

Other colors and inspiration of navy & neutral painted rooms:
BM Van Deusen Blue | Apartment Therapy
BM Kendall Charcoal | Painters Place
BM Dark Harbor | The Marion House Book
BM Stormy Monday | Hey Gorgeous Events
BM Hale Navy | The Nesting Game
Alright now it's your turn! What are you're thoughts on this color scheme to start off the nursery? Which two colors would you pick - could you decide between all the possible Navy & Neutral options?

Rainy Day Blues

Spring has sprung here in Charlotte and the weather this past weekend was beautiful! I loved finally being able to spend my weekend outside enjoying the weather, but the rain finally hit and it's definitely put a damper on the mood. Today's mood board is all about those rainy day blues.

The rain can get you down, but I'm loving these blue patterns and designs!

Seahawks

Happy Monday! Did everyone watch the Super Bowl last night?? I sure did! I thoroughly enjoyed the commercials and Half Time Show! Can we talk about the commercials for a quick second??

The Budweiser "Puppy Love" commercial? I died a little inside when it aired - SO CUTE!
The Cheerios commercial? That is one clever little girl!
The other Budweiser commercial with the Soldier coming home? Get the tissues.
Jack in the box stepped up their game with the catchiest commercial ever.
The Microsoft commercial was a tear jerker too!
And it was aired before and after the super bowl but I LOVED the Diet Mt. Dew commercial with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

I must say I'm a little biased and I would have paid more attention to the actual game if my two teams had been the ones playing. [Patriots & Panthers] They were both close though!!

Well, In honor of the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl last night, here is a little NFL themed mood board monday! Bring on the Navy & Green!

What was you're favorite Super Bowl Commercial?

Pantone Prediction

Monday, Monday, Monday.  Personally, I think Monday's are a long shot. They're very unpredictable but wether they are good or bad it sets the stage for how your week is about to go. On this fine Monday, I bring to you a Trend Board for my predictions of the 2014 Pantone Color of the year... but because it is Monday, we'll call it a [Monday Morning Moodboard] Now say Monday 5 times, really fast...
While Pantone has yet to announce the official 2014 Color of the Year, I'd like to share my thoughts.

Navy. [Navy & Gold]
Navy blue is a hot and popular color right now - and an amazing color [in my opinion] to mix and match with anything. Check out my [Pantone 2014] pinterest board to see more navy pairings

Even though I wasn't able to attend the Fall High Point Furniture market, I had all of my design friends keeping me posted and sending me pictures of all the showrooms.  I also did my fair share of instgram and blog stalking to keep up with the trends and what was going on each day.  What color was used the most at market this fall? Yep. You guessed it - Navy and Gold.
And by now, you've most likely figured out that I have a slight obsession with gold and metallics so, what better than to pair my 2014 prediction [navy] with my new found love  [gold]

Like stated earlier, Pantone has yet to reveal the 2014 Color of the Year.  What they have given us is a sneak peak of the Spring 2014 Fashion Color Report. On their website, you can even go and look at all of the designers and influencers who took part in making the decisions for 2014. [it's pretty cool if you ask me]

As for the Spring 2014 Color Report?
[insert thumbs up emoji here] Soft pastels - check. Bright and bold jewel tones - check. Throw in a few neutrals and earth tones - check.  Solid decision and collaboration on everyone at Pantone's part. My applause goes out to all who contributed.

Who's excited? I know I am. Do you think the 2014 Color of the year will be navy?  Comment with your thoughts below! Take the 2014 Color Survey and Vote for your favorite Colors here
